Billie Holiday, aka Lady Day, was one of the coolest female jazz singers of all time.. it only takes a second ot recognize her haunting voice,, Billie Holiday had a difficult childhood that greatly affected her life and career. She grew up poor in Baltimore, Maryland, near the projects. She began to sing for tips at various night clubs and was discovered by scout John Hammond.

Billie Holiday's first hit songs were "What A Little Moonlight Can Do" and "Miss Brown To You". In 1936 she began to perform with Lester Young and he nicknamed her "Lady Day". Billie's classic songs include "Fine And Mellow", "I Cover The Waterfront" and "Strange Fruit"..

A jazz vocalist with an tear in every note she sang.. Billie Holiday's music somhow makes you feel warm and optimistic when you listen to her.. Billie Holiday influenced singers such as Janis Joplin and Nina Simone.Diana Ross played her in the movie "Lady Sings The Blues" and what a lady she was.. long will live the music of the tormented and universally loved Billie Holiday.
